We will not let you veto away our families!

A message from the Freedom to Marry Taskforce...

015

Gov. Douglas held a press conference today where he announced that he will veto bill S.115, the marriage equality bill, if it passes the House.

WE CANNOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER!!!

Our task is clear now – we must use the upcoming days to change his mind.

We need YOU at the State House this FRIDAY at 8:45AM to show your support for marriage equality. We need to thank the Legislators for their leadership and to URGE Gov. Douglas to change his mind. The Governor has a Legislative Open Door from 9am-9:30am. WE NEED YOU THERE.

We will send out an email shortly to let you know what other actions to take!

In the meantime - call or email Gov. Douglas to express your outrage and urge him to change his mind. It's not too late.

Even thought I'm not from Vermont but from the Netherlands, I've been following the developments re. the same-sex marriage bill closely.
This recent development saddens me deeply. How can one man stop a bill when it's approved by both the House and Senate?
How can one man think his opinion matters more than the opinion of the entire congress?
I remember when in my country the same-sex marriage bill was approved. Oh of course, some people did not agree, but the majority was in favor.
And why not? Why are people who are gay so different from people who are straight. Why should your rights be any different. Who made you lesser people. Who decides that a civil union should be good enough for you even though it isn't good enough for straight people. I don't get it. All you want is to be able to get married. So why oppose that. It's such a simple, honest wish. And it's so utterly sad people want to prevent it.
I wish you all much success in the coming days and I truly hope you will succeed.

Take care,
Eve Blake

We appreciate all that you are doing to try and obtain equality for all of us! This whole issue is so incredibly important. What we see as a civil rights issue our governor calls a distraction - how sad that Vermont can be known as such a progressive state and yet the LGBT community has to fight every inch of the way for equality! Governor Douglas needs to recognize that what he is doing by threatening to veto the bill is creating hostility and hate in our communities - we all have the right to exist in this world! There is a place for all of us in Vermont, but there is NO PLACE FOR HATE! Go RU12, Go Freedom to Marry! We are behind you every step of the way!
