Just a few moments for LGBTQ Vermonters...

SamaraHey All-

The Samara Fund, part of the Vermont Community Foundation, has been a huge supporter of RU12? Community Center. We have been able to do everything from truly committing to a statewide expansion to strengthening the safety nets for LGBT seniors in the NEK because the Samara Fund has been there supporting LGBTQ issues. Now, you can help them out by taking this survey. They are seeking your opinion on needs and services that are important to you and the broader LGBTQ community in Vermont.

As our thank you for participating, at the end of the survey you will be able to vote for your favorite Vermont-based LGBTQ organization to receive a mini-grant of $250.  The organization with the most votes at the end of the survey period will receive this gift of appreciation. You can also use this link to share the survey on your Facebook page:

Thanks all!!

LGBTQ Adoption Group Meets 6PM Tonight at RU12?

KUAC New
KUAC (Kind, Understanding Adoption Circle) is a peer support group where 21+ members of the adoption triad (adoptees, birth parents, adoptive parents, and people considering adoption) who are LGBTQ-identified or Allies can come together to share stories, give and receive support, and talk about feelings/thoughts related to the adoption experience. KUAC offers an understanding, confidential community-minded environment where participants can share their feelings and stories with others who can relate.

The name is significant of the connections made between and among those who share the common thread of adoption. Participation is encouraged (but not required), so that each individual gets the most out of group time, and every KUAC member has a multitude of opportunities at their disposal: to learn more about other triad members’ lives and feelings and thoughts, to be heard, as well as to educate others about the adoption experience—and to do so without the fear of judgment!

KUAC peer support group meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of every month @ 6pm at the RU12? Community Center for LGBTQ Vermonters in Winooski. For more information, please contact RU12? at 802.860.7812 or email thecenter@ru12.org.

RU12?'s Second Annual LGBTQA Family Program Picnic Potluck and Field Day
TODAY, Saturday, August 10, 10am-1:30pm
Wrightsville Reservoir Beach, Middlesex VT (5 miles north of Montpelier on Route 12)

Things to bring:
• Suggested donation of $10-$15/family to defray the cost of the event and raise funds for future Family     Program endeavors, but no one will ever be turned away for lack of donation
• A dish to share (with appropriate serving utensils)
• Non-alcoholic beverages for you and yours
• Picnic blankets
• Sunscreen
• Bug spray
• Overlayers in case it gets cold
• Change of clothes/shoes

RU12? will have barbecue supplies (charcoal, grill lighters, lighter fluid), some kid/adult snackies, trach bags, bowls/plates, and utensils for the meal. There will be some scheduled activities (beach ball volleyball, scavenger hunt) and several ongoing (bubbles, coloring, face painting, etc.), giveaways and prizes.

The intent of this event is to provide an outdoor activity for families (with and without kids!) to enjoy the gorgeous VT summer, and more importantly, build community. Folks we have spoken with are eager to meet and connect with other LGBTQ-identified individuals, as well as provide opportunities for kids in LGBTQ families to see their family constellations mirrored elsewhere.

This year's event is up on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/events/1394100197471426/) and pics of last year's event are here.

Directions to Wrightsville Reservoir Beach/Recreation Area can be found here:  http://www.wrightsvillebeachvt.com/Directions.html.

Feel free to spread the word with anyone you know who might be interested in attending.

TONIGHT! Waterfront Picnic and Family-Friendly Film

FP picnic_film

Tonight, bring your camp chairs or a blanket for lounging in the grass, food and beverages for you and your family (with or without kids), frisbee (and probably some bug spray, given all the wet weather we've been having!) and join us for a Waterfront Park Picnic! We'll be meeting at 5:30pm outside of Skinny Pancake (60 Lake Street)--look for the Pride Flag!--to stake out some turf in Waterfront Park for a low-key Family Program Picnic from 5:30-6:45pm! For a modest donation, RU12? will have some light snacks to supplement your meal.

Following this, around 6:45pm, we'll be heading up to Main Street Landing (also at 60 Lake Street) for a free (kid-friendly) 7pm screening of National Lampoon's Vacation in the Main Street Landing Film House. All donations collected directly benefit the RU12? Community Center! Hope to see you there!

Please drop a line (call the Center at 860.7812 or email jean@ru12.org) if you have any questions, and look for more scheduling from our Family Program soon!
