The Queer Community Annual Dinner and Auction Benefit is an annual tradition of RU12? In fact, the Dinner was one of the first programs that the RU12? founders put on together in 1999. This community event is one of the largest gatherings of the LGBTQA community in Vermont outside of Pride and the Drag Ball. It is a coming together of community members and organizations, a chance to celebrate the year’s accomplishments, honor our volunteers, celebrate, have fun and support the community center!
This year’s Annual Dinner theme was True Colors, a 1980’s Prom theme, with entertainment provided by the Vermont band “Hot Neon Magic”. Thank you to all who contributed to such a great event!
At previous RU12? Annual Dinners internationally recognized cartoonist Alison Bechdel (creator of “Dykes to Watch Out For”), Amber Hollibaugh of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, Dan Savage, syndicated sex advice columnist, author, and media pundit and Sabrina Matthews, a nationally recognized comedian have delivered thought-provoking and entertaining keynote addresses. Last year, our head-liner was Ian Harvie, an openly transgender comic who regularly opens for Margaret Cho.
All proceeds from the event go to support the programs and services at RU12?.
The mission of RU12? Community Center is to celebrate, educate and advocate with and for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) Vermonters. As the state’s only LGBTQ community center and advocacy organization for adults, RU12? provides critical services and is the community’s hub and source for resources and connections. RU12? provides visibility, voice and a physical space for the LGBTQ community, through anti-violence/discrimination advocacy, HIV prevention and testing, community building, social and coming out support, political advocacy, education, outreach and referrals.
